A visit to Hämelschenburg Castle takes you into the world of the Renaissance. Jürgen Klencke and his wife Anna von Holle had the moated castle built between 1588 and 1613 as part of their knight’s estate. Since then, it has remained in the possession of the von Klencke family.
The completely preserved Hämelschenburg estate, with its art collections, gardens, farm buildings, mill, church, and castle, is considered one of the most beautiful Renaissance complexes in Germany. During a guided tour, you can visit the historic rooms of the castle, furnished with valuable furniture, paintings, tiled stoves, as well as collections of porcelain, glass, and weapons. Here you will experience the architecture of the Weser Renaissance and the fascinating 550-year history of a Guelph noble family.
Idyllic walks lead you through the Minnegarten to the soap maker’s cottage in the garden house and to the historic water mill with a painter’s studio and exhibitions.
